Ricoh offers a variety of single and multi-function machines to meet your company’s copying requirements. If your Ricoh machine is not making copies, you may be able to save money by troubleshooting the problem yourself before calling a technician for a service call. Understanding the potential causes of your copier’s problems may lead to a faster resolution.
General Troubleshooting
1. Examine any error codes displayed by the machine. Ricoh copiers display error codes that correspond to any common problem that the machine may encounter. For example, the code could indicate a paper jam or the need to replace a machine component. Look up the error codes in the service manual for your copier or on Ricoh’s support website (link in Resources).
2.Power cycle the copier by turning it off, waiting approximately one minute, and then turning it back on. This, like restarting your computer, clears the copier’s memory and may resolve the issue. If you are unable to turn off the copier using the power switch, disconnect the power cord and wait at least one minute before reconnecting your Ricoh copier to the power source.
3.Clean the copier if you’re having issues with overall print quality, as dirt and debris could be the culprit. Use a soft microfiber cloth dampened with window cleaner to clean the glass top. Allowing the liquid to pool on the copier may cause it to leak inside and damage delicate electrical components. Remove dust and toner particles from around internal components such as the fusing area and drum unit with a can of compressed air, as this debris can reduce copy quality and cause your copier to overheat.
4.To improve print quality, adjust the exposure or density settings on your Ricoh copier. Your copies may appear too dark or too light if these settings are set too high or too low. Typically, you can access these settings through your machine’s control panel.
5.Install a new toner cartridge. After adjusting your copier settings, copies that appear too light may indicate that your toner is nearing the end of its life. If you recently replaced the toner and are still experiencing issues, remove the toner and double-check that you have removed all packaging before reinstalling it in your copier.
Paper Handling
1.Reseat the paper that is currently in your copier’s paper trays. Frequent paper jams usually indicate a problem with how the paper was loaded into the tray. Removing the paper stack and reloading it into the tray can sometimes solve the problem.
2.Check the paper tray and the area of the machine where it is located for debris and damage. Dust and debris, such as tiny shreds of paper, can clog your copier’s feed mechanism. Replace any damaged components, such as broken or cracked ones, to restore proper functionality. Replacement parts can be ordered directly from Ricoh or from any authorised reseller.
3.Replace the paper that is currently in the paper tray. If the paper jams persist, replacing it with new paper may help because old or wrinkled paper may not move properly through the copier.
4.Confirm that the paper you’ve loaded meets Ricoh’s specifications. Using paper that is too thick for the machine may cause your Ricoh copier to malfunction and result in a paper jam. For a list of acceptable paper types for your specific model, consult your owner’s manual or Ricoh’s website.
