Drivers are used by Windows 7 to communicate with various hardware devices connected to your computer, such as printers and scanners. Printer manufacturers include drivers with their products, but they also update older drivers to improve their performance and add new features. You must use the Device Manager utility to obtain the most recent version of the driver, roll back the driver to an earlier version, or even remove the driver. Sometimes reverting the printer driver solves issues introduced by a new driver version.
Printer Connected to a Computer
1.In the bottom-left corner of your screen, expand the Windows 7 Start menu.
2.In the “Search programmes and files” box, type “Device Manager” and select “Device Manager” from the list of results.
3.In the Device Manager list, locate your printer. It is usually found under the nodes Ports (COM and LPT) or Universal Serial Bus controllers.
4.Right-click the printer and choose “Properties” from the menu that appears.
5.Switch to it by clicking the “Driver” tab.
6.To begin updating the driver, click the “Update Driver” button. You can choose to search for updated driver software automatically or browse your computer for driver software.
7.To restore the previous version of the printer driver, click the “Roll Back Driver” button. The procedure is fully automated.
8.Click “Uninstall” to remove the printer driver completely. It is sometimes preferable to uninstall the driver before installing a new one.
9.To close the Printer Properties window, click “OK.”
Printer on a Network
1.Open your Web browser and navigate to the manufacturer’s website for your printer.
2.Go to the Downloads section and get the most up-to-date drivers for your printer model and operating system version. All drivers should be available.
3.Double-click the setup executable (EXE) file to start the driver installation wizard.
4.Follow the instructions on your screen to install the most recent drivers. Some installation wizards remove the old drivers before installing the new ones, while others simply install the new drivers over the old ones.
5.Restart your computer and print a test page to ensure that the new drivers are installed and functioning properly.
